DEVELOPMENT / TRAINING
Training Policy:
Staff are encouraged to take advantage of available
training and educational opportunities.
A variety of course announcements of available training opportunities
are circulated periodically. Department
of Personnel (DOP) training opportunities are also available. Class schedules are located in the Old Main
Administrative Office, on the Training Bulletin Board, which is located outside
of the Residential Life Supervisors office. You can also access this
information on line at www.dop.wa.gov/training. If you wish to take advantage
of a training or educational opportunity which is job-related, you should
notify your supervisor. Approved DOP
training can be schedule through the Human Resources office.
Tuition fee waivers for state employees are offered at
participating colleges and universities.
You will need to contact the institution directly for application and
policy.
Tuition reimbursement is given for job related or
pre-approved career plan classes.
Tuition reimbursement request forms are located in this section and are
available from the Business Office.
Completed forms should be sent to the Business Office for processing
payment.
Professional Development funds: Staff can apply for $300 annually for
professional development funds, with the opportunity to apply for residual
amounts of unused funds up to $1500.
These funds are intended to assist each employee in professional growth
activities. Forms and additional
information on professional development funds are located in this section.
Promotion Opportunities:
WSSB employees are eligible to apply for other
positions as they become available. Open
positions will be posted on the bulletin board in the old main office, which is
located outside of the Receptionist’s office and on the WSSB web site. Announcements will also be sent to all staff
via e-mail. Employees who believe they meet the qualification of the open
position should contact the Human Resources office for information on how to
apply. The bulletin board also has
postings for other open positions within the Washington State System and from
outside agencies. Application
information should be directed to the hiring agency listed on the
announcement. Contact Human Resources if
you have any questions.

You will need to contact the admissions office directly for application
and policy.
Professional Development funds: Staff can apply for $300 per year for admission
or tuition fees. By June 1st
you may apply for additional tuition refund up to $1500. Forms are located in the Business Office and
must be submitted to your supervisor for approval.
