Labor/Management Meeting
Minutes
May 9, 2005
Attendees: Don
Barber, Bonda Albers, Jim Eccles, Renee Corso, Cherie Willhide, Craig Meador, Mary
Sarate, Janet Merz (recording secretary), Dean Stenehjem, Tina Corey, and Sandy
Prouty.
1.
Salary Change (Cherie Willhide):
Cherie stated that this issue
has been discussed with both Don and Bonda.
In September the computer system will not allow our 9-month employees
(including nurses) to be paid out over 12 months. This will be the same at WSD. Seniority and benefits will not be
affected. Cherie and Jess would like to talk
to each employee about this and also send out a question and answer data sheet regarding
this. Jim felt there will be some issues
as the teachers are able to be paid over 12 months. Cherie said that the teachers have a specific
RCW addressing this. Cherie said that
the WAC that allowed us to pay the 9 month employees over 12 months is
gone. Don liked the format of what Cherie
put together for employees. Dean said teachers
are not hourly wage earners; that is another difference. Cherie and Jess will discuss this with all
staff at the Fall Workshops.
2.
Staff hiring for next year—are we filling the
temporary positions (Bonda Albers):
Bonda stated she has had a
lot of questions regarding this. Dean
said the admin. team will be meeting tomorrow and we will have a better feel
after the discussion. Renee is also
exploring different options for the bus monitor positions.
3.
Discussion on training for intermittents (Bonda
Albers):
Bonda said there are safety
concerns regarding training intermittents.
Bonda stated that in the past when a new intermittent was hired, we
would train them before they came on to get to know the students. Bonda felt that new staff should have
30-minutes with Nurse Sarah to review medical conditions in the beginning. Bonda would like a list of immune deficient
students in print and Braille for each cottage.
Renee said she felt it was a great idea.
Renee said as far as basic training goes; Pat has done a great job. Bonda said she is asking for intermittents to
be able to receive more personal information on each kid. Renee felt that receiving emergency
information, etc. on each student should be in hard copy and Braille each time
Sarah updates it and it should be in a notebooks available for intermittents. Cherie stated she ordered a FERPA and HIPPA
video for fall workshop and training so that we are sure we cover those
regulations. Dean wants to be sure we
have the right trainer in the training position. Renee suggested putting together a checklist
for each intermittent.
4. Miscellaneous
Dean stated that the upcoming study as mandated by the
legislature is written as a comparative study between WSD and WSSB. Dean talked to the Governor’s office and we
are going to resubmit for our PE building during the interim session. The study has to be completed by December 1st. The Washington Institute of Public Policy
will be conducting the study. Dean
stated that this study is almost identical to the study that was done in 2002
for WSD. They will be visiting the
school on June 6 from 9:30-11:30 a.m.
There
being no further business, the meeting adjourned at
